Sustainability Mission
Semrush is committed to helping protect our environment and contributing to a more sustainable world, particularly through clean energy initiatives. We do this by supporting scalable innovation and sustainable energy sources for off-grid communities.
Semrush Sustainability action:
- Partnering with NGOs that have targeted programs for clean energy distribution in order to offset our energy and carbon footprint
- Working with expert local partners to bring clean, affordable energy to impoverished and underserved communities in secluded areas through the most essential establishments, such as health centers and hospitals
- Participating in local activities to further embed ourselves in the global community of businesses focused on sustainable energy
External programs we support:
A UK-based international non-governmental organization (INGO), which, since its founding in 2007, has helped over 123,000 people to transform their lives with renewable energy-inspired solutions.
With clean, reliable and affordable energy, these people can now access water and irrigate crops, light and power their homes, schools, and health clinics, and develop new businesses. By also providing access to clean cooking, Renewable World helps reduce air pollution and vulnerability to diseases. Renewable World also supports communities in increasing their resilience to climate change through solar-powered early warning systems, training in climate-smart agriculture, and projects to protect and improve livelihoods and fragile ecosystems.
Semrush has been a partner and donor of RW since 2022. With regular monetary donations and participating in the “Big Give” charity activity, Semrush provided support and coverage of program costs, specifically for the following directions:
- E4WASH project in Nepal: Improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene in secluded areas with the help of solar-powered water pumping solutions;
- Clean Energy for Hearth (E4H) in Nepal and Kenya: Facilitating the provision of basic energy-enabled healthcare services for rural communities + installing seven solar-powered health posts that will be sustainably managed and maintained;
- Keep Kids in School in Nepal: Providing access to solar-pumped water with improved sanitation for over 10 secondary schools in the Gulmi area;
- Various solar and cleaning systems in hospitals and flood warning systems powered by solar energy.
A US-based non-profit organization addresses the basic lighting needs of vulnerable off-grid communities in sub-Saharan Africa, specifically Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
With a team located in the region, and in cooperation with local health ministers, LTBLI consults with and provides support to local doctors, nurses, and visitors to the clinics—the people directly affected by donations.These clinics end up having a secondary function as community centers for local people, as they are often the only electrified place within many miles.
Semrush was a part of the “Nampanga Clinic” project that ensured electrification of a health clinic serving an area population of over 10,000 people in Uganda.
With a monetary donation from Semrush to LTBLI in 2022, we achieved:
- Full electrification of Nampanga Health Clinic (Sironco District), including examination and consultations rooms, waiting areas, exterior areas, storage rooms, and staff quarters, which were not connected to the clinic block.
- It included two 350 Watt solar electrification systems (for clinic and staff quarters), two 200AH batteries for interior, exterior, and task lighting, charging of phones, computers and microscopes, including hard-wiring, batteries, transportation, and implementation costs.

Our CSR and Employee Activity:
Semrush is contributing to a number of environmental activities both through CSR programs and partnering with local NGOs and volunteers.
These include beach clean ups, animal shelter visits, and donations to charity programs.
All our offices worldwide provide options for waste and hardware recycling and educational activities for all employees on the matter.
Our community commitment:
Semrush is a member of the Leaders for Climate Action (LFCA) community.
LFCA supports its members with Climate Action Strategy planning through regular events and addressing local environmental issues. It also provides an emission calculator to measure carbon footprint on an employee and organization levels.
Since 2022, we’ve attended several workshops and peer sessions on capacity building, green initiatives, and carbon footprint reductions through business-specific actions.
Our customer commitment:
Semrush integrates eco-design principles into the product development and operation of the platform. We also incentivize customers to practice CSR programs and contribute to a better world, together.
- As a digital service provider, we focus on minimising the environmental impact of our products by optimising cloud infrastructure, improving code efficiency, and selecting hosting partners committed to renewable energy.
Our software architecture follows scalable and modular design principles that helps extend the product lifecycle and reduce unnecessary resource consumption.
Additionally, Semrush applies responsible data management and storage policies to prevent digital waste and continuously monitors opportunities to improve environmental performance. - In 2023 Semrush launched Semrush Select in an effort to encourage our customers to practice their own Corporate Social Responsibility programs.
The program rewards two customers per year, anywhere in the world, with a free Semrush Guru subscription for 12 months, and an offer to match a donation up to $25,000 USD to a non-profit or charity of the customer’s choice. The first customer to win Semrush Select was Boody, a leader in the sustainable fashion industry, who donates to domestic violence shelters. - In 2025, Semrush supported Offset Foundation with our Trends API to allow for quick calculations of large-scale data.
As a leading organization in the carbon credit sector, Offset Foundation provides advanced tools to measure, track, and offset emissions. Through this collaboration, Semrush delivered a high-level overview of website traffic, dynamic data, and country-level visitor distribution, supporting carbon emission calculations with up to 95% accuracy.
