Chief Sales Officer

The Chief Sales Officer (CSO) is a pivotal position at Semrush. Reporting to the CEO, this leader will take an active role in overseeing operational functions, implementing company policies, and spurring business growth. This is a hybrid role that will be based out of our Boston headquarters. 

Tasks in the role

  • Design and employ business operations and strategies to lead the company to accelerated growth.

  • Control company budget and costs; implement practices that work to prevent theft and other financial losses.

  • Collaborate with the CEO and other executives to set and drive company vision, operational strategy, hiring needs, and financial reports.

  • Act as the second-in-command regarding high-level initiatives and decision-making.

  • Prepare accurate organizational performance reports on a quarterly and annual basis.

  • Establish policies that reinforce company culture.

  • Secure business strategy to drive sustainable growth.

  • Assist HR leadership in maintaining effective recruiting, onboarding, and retention of employees.

  • Assess and implement new tools and practices to improve employee and organizational efficiency.

  • Oversee all company operations and employee productivity, ensuring employees are successful in professional development.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, clients, and board members.

  • Strategically organize and build a globally dispersed team to maximize output.

  • Establish quotas for the sales team and drive results around established KPIs (Revenue, Growth, Headcount).

  • Coach and develop geographically distributed sales talent.

  • Develop strategy with the leadership team and Revenue Operations.

  • Identify gaps in workforce planning and strategically develop teams and hiring initiatives for Salesforce Group/Class Hiring.

  • Establish tools to better operationalize the sales team.

  • Partner with Revenue Operations & Enablement to drive efficiencies in the sales organization.

  • Identify process improvements and adoption & usage of sales technologies.



Who we are looking for

  • Demonstrated success in building and leading 100+ member inside sales teams selling in both an enterprise and transactional SaaS startup environment.

  • Strong preference for the ability to strategically align sales teams across a varied portfolio of product categories.

  • A thorough understanding of various compensation models with proven success in building, supporting, and implementing.

  • Experience in hiring, coaching, and developing a geographically distributed team and managing in a virtual environment.

  • Proven track record of training, leading, and motivating sales teams.

  • Previous experience selling through the channel.

  • Experience scaling a sales organization.

  • Software sales experience is required.

  • Ability to analyze market opportunities.

  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work to deadlines.

  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.

  • Proven history of working well in global teams across an organization.

  • Strong sales, leadership, and management experience.

  • 25% travel is required for this position.
